Legal education in India- historically doctrinal and passive is coming under increasing pressure to re-imagine itself as pragmatic, policy aware and action-oriented. Given the dramatic recent transformations to legal profession and justice system globally, one might expect to witness parallel developments in legal education. Despite internationalization of legal practice, law continues to be presented as a predominantly domestic affair. Theses forces are reshaping all professions, including legal profession, though, legal profession is reluctantly undergoing radical transformation.
The gap between legal education and legal realities appear particularly striking. In a desire to fill up the gap existing, the the need to research appears so as to understand the complexity of law as it takes shape through practice. In order to achieve transformation in legal education, research becomes a tool. so prioritizing an empirical approach to law becomes a must.
